General information
MRI MEETS NEONATOLOGY:
MRI DIAGNOSTIC INCUBATOR
For a healthy start in life
Newborns and premature babies place the highest demands on neonatologists and radiologists in neonatal intensive care medicine. Complex organic malformations require non-invasive diagnostic options. Today’s MRI examination methods for the nervous system of newborns and premature babies include MRI spectroscopy, diffusion imaging and functional MRI. With the new nomag ®IC ADVANCED MR diagnostic incubator system, such examinations can be performed quickly and easily on infants.
INNOVATION FROM LÜBECK:
THE INCUBATOR FOR MRI
With the groundbreaking development of its MR diagnostic incubator for the transport and MRI examination of infants, LMT Medical Systems GmbH from Lübeck revolutionised paediatric radiology. At the interface between radiology and neonatology, the system made it possible for the first time at the beginning of the millennium to perform non-invasive examinations of newborns and even premature babies from the paediatric intensive care unit in the MRI scanner. Previously, infants in intensive care, especially those born before the 37th week of pregnancy, could not be examined in an MRI scanner.
EVEN BETTER FUNCTIONALITY IN THE NEW GENERATION
In the new generation, the nomag®IC ADVANCED MR diagnostic incubator system, LMT Medical Systems GmbH has further developed its functionality:
Among other things, patient access and noise protection in the MRI have been improved, the lying surface has been widened and the total weight of the incubator has been reduced. As before, the baby is optimally protected during transport and examination in the life-supporting incubator, which continuously monitors the temperature and humidity in the patient compartment.
The nomag®IC advanced is compatible with devices from leading MRI manufacturers. It can be used with the corresponding MRI devices without much effort. An integrated multi-channel head coil ensures excellent image quality. This allows any brain damage to be quickly detected.
The basic equipment also includes a chassis with independent power and gas supply for convenient transport to the radiology department.
Advantages
BABY-FRIENDLY RADIOLOGY
Heat and humidity regulation suitable for infants
No radiation exposure for the baby
Avoidance of general anaesthesia due to lower sedation requirements
Improved noise protection for the child in the MRI scanner
Wider lying surface for newborns
Optimal diagnostic options thanks to adapted neonatal high-frequency coils for the head and body
Time-optimised examination with maximum safety
Minimal treatment effort directly on the small patient
WELL-THOUGHT-OUT CONCEPT, EASY TO USE
The MR Diagnostics Incubator System nomag ®IC ADVANCED also offers easier handling of the system by medical staff:
Better access to the patient
Easier handling due to lower weight
Easier cleaning
Optimised workflow for MRI examinations
Accessories
16-CHANNEL HEADPIPE 1.5/3.0 T

The nomag®IC advanced MR diagnostic incubator system has an integrated head coil. This enables precise imaging of the brain. LMT also offers a separate body coil as an additional product.
Features
- 16-channel coil, cylindrical arrangement, pure reception coil
- High-resolution MR examination of the brain of newborns and premature babies up to approx.
- 3 months of age with a head circumference of approx. 42 cm
- Optimised for the examination of intubated patients
- Improved SNR and improved image homogeneity: 35% more SNR compared to the 8-channel coil (e.g. Siemens Skyra)
- 17% larger field of view compared to the 8-channel coil
- Approved for use in the nomag®IC and nomag®IC advanced MR diagnostic incubator systems.
8-CHANNEL HEAD PIPE 1.5/3.0 T
Features
- High-resolution MR examination of the brain of premature babies and newborns up to approximately 3 months of age or with a head circumference of approximately 40 cm
- 8-channel coil
- Cylindrical arrangement
- Pure receive coil
- Approved for use in MR diagnostics Incubator systems nomag®IC and nomag®IC advanced
12-CHANNEL BODY COIL 1.5/3.0 T
Premature babies are born with organs that are sometimes not yet fully developed. As a result, these organs are often limited in their functionality and very susceptible to disease. A multi-channel body coil is available for the nomag®IC advanced MR diagnostic incubator system. This allows detailed images of the chest and abdomen of these tiny patients to be created.
Features
- 12-channel coil consisting of 2 elements that can be used individually or in combination:
- 1st part integrated into the lying surface (8 channels)
- 2nd part as a separate coil (4 channels)
- High-resolution MR examination of the body of premature and newborn babies weighing up to approx. 4,500 g
- Approved for use in nomag®IC and nomag®IC advanced MR diagnostic incubator systems
Compatible with leading MRI devices such as Siemens, Philips and GE
