X-ray aprons
X-ray protective clothing, also known as PPE (personal protective equipment), is subject to many legal regulations. The aim of the relevant standards, guidelines and regulations is to provide users with the best possible protection against ionising radiation.
MAVIG manufactures all personal protective equipment in accordance with the currently valid legal regulations.
CURRENTLY APPLICABLE REGULATIONS
The Regulation on Personal Protective Equipment (EU) 2016/425 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2016 applies, with the final transition period ending in April 2019. The only currently valid series of standards is DIN EN 61331:2016, based on the IEC 61331:2014 standard.
New features of this regulation include
– the measurement method for determining attenuation properties, which in particular also takes into account the correct definition of the lead equivalent of lead composites and lead-free protective materials
– the design of the X-ray apron and the requirement that the front area of the protective clothing covers at least 60% of the user’s body circumference
– the requirements for labelling an X-ray apron
More detailed information on the new regulation can be found in the brochure “From IEC Standard to German Standard”.
WHY CHOOSE A MAVIG X-RAY APRON?
The following criteria are usually decisive when choosing a radiation protection apron:
– Compliance with current legal requirements
– Fit
– Weight
MAVIG already took fluorescence radiation and measurements across the entire X-ray tube voltage range into account when testing its radiation protection aprons in 2009.
MAVIG has always attached great importance to sophisticated, weight-distributing cuts and designs. This has been further refined in the current collection, as the radiation protection aprons have a higher total weight due to new regulations, such as the requirement for 60% coverage of the user’s front body.
The new product label, which specifies the weight per unit area of the radiation protection material, the standard designation with the year, the tested X-ray tube voltage range and the CE number, gives you the assurance that the protective clothing is state of the art.
THE BASICS OF APRON SELECTION
Important criteria when selecting the right radiation protection apron for you are:
– sufficient length
– armholes
– Relief options
– Safety zones and overlap areas
– Choice of the right protective material and lead equivalent depending on the area of application

Balance 631
GET OPTIMAL ALL-ROUND PROTECTION, NOW MADE EASY.

Optimal protection all round! Thanks to the patented Balance RA631 coverall series, you can get through your working day with greater peace of mind. Special features distinguish this model significantly from other two-piece coveralls.
Fully overlapping front panels achieve lead equivalents of Pb 0.25 mm, Pb 0.35 mm or Pb 0.50 mm at the front and create the conditions for the amazing wearing comfort of the RA631 series: optimum weight distribution, high material suppleness and flexibility.
The integrated, colour-contrasting safety zones provide ideal radiation protection. These give you the certainty of being optimally protected in all situations. The vest and skirt are each equipped with the full lead equivalent of the front section over a width of 12 cm on the sides. When the front wing is within this clearly recognisable zone when the protective clothing is closed, you are covered for the full 60% of your body circumference with the maximum protection value.
In addition to the high-quality Velcro fastener, the skirt has a wide webbing belt. An elastic insert in the back makes it easy to maintain posture and can be easily replaced if necessary thanks to a zip fastener.
The webbing belt provides support without constricting and also ensures an optimal and secure fit.

Synergie 632
GET OPTIMAL ALL-ROUND PROTECTION, NOW MADE EASY.

Heavy all-round protection variants place considerable physical strain on the user. We have succeeded in counteracting this with the development of this X-ray protection coat – the patented Synergy RA632 series.
Its comfortable and uncomplicated fit is another special feature. The gown is simply closed with a Velcro fastener at chest height and fits correctly straight away. The required front protection from side seam to side seam is achieved with overlapping front panels.
The required front protection from side seam to side seam is achieved with overlapping front panels. The RA632 series creates the necessary safety zones through a double-layer construction in sensitive areas.
If the front flap is within this clearly recognisable zone when the protective clothing is closed, you cover the full 60% of the body circumference with maximum protection.
An elastic belt (included) provides shoulder relief without uncomfortable constriction. A variable press stud placket on the belt ensures optimal alignment with your waist height. It can be buttoned to the coat on either one or both sides. The coat is also secured with a snap fastener at the bottom.

Basic 640
FRONT PROTECTION IN ITS PUREST FORM.

The classic – the Basic RA640 model has proven itself over many years and is generally used as front protection for short and infrequent periods of wear in conventional X-ray examinations without fluoroscopy.
The front protection apron is also well suited as protective clothing for accompanying persons. The cut takes into account all requirements in conventional radiology.

Extended RA641
FRONT PROTECTION IN ITS PUREST FORM.

Contemporary user protection for a wide range of applications that can also be performed while seated: In practical terms, this means that a front protection apron designed as a functional one-piece garment naturally provides ideal radiation protection in any working position.
Radiation protection aprons are already standard equipment in various specialist areas, such as urology, anaesthesiology, etc. However, the front protection aprons currently in use are designed for standing applications. But in the examples mentioned above, some interventions are performed while seated. When using a regular front protection apron, this carries the risk that the
gonads are exposed to a significantly higher radiation dose than when standing.
The main reason for this is the radiation protection gap that is created when the apron rests on the knees.
Protection specifically for seated activities
To ensure adequate protection even when seated, gonad protection has been added to the inside of the apron. This hangs protectively in front of the gonads while the apron rests on the legs.
At the same time, the new design prevents the apron from slipping down from the legs and resulting exposure. The larger side wings in the lower area keep the apron in position even when moving.
Even when standing, the RA641 ensures complete radiation protection from the neck to below the knees. The side wings in the lower part of the apron can be easily fastened together at the back,
so that they do not interfere with movement and you can work without restriction.
For optimised wearing comfort, the RA640 model is now also equipped with shoulder pads as standard.

Ergonomic 650
FRONT PROTECTION IN ITS PUREST FORM.

Front protection in its purest form – this includes full-surface protection across the entire front section and for the upper back section below the shoulder seam.
To reduce the weight of the apron, you can optionally choose “without protection” in the back section.
For optimised wearing comfort, the RA650 model is now also equipped with shoulder pads as standard.
Comfortable, wide cross straps allow the apron to slide easily through the sterile surgical gown by simply opening the Velcro fasteners at the front.

Bolero RA637
SHOULDER X-RAY PROTECTION

Thanks to the newly developed bolero as an alternative to sleeves, the radiation exposure from scattered radiation to the shoulder joint can be significantly reduced.
The Bolero shoulder protector is available for all models and is therefore ideal for combination with MAVIG all-round protection or front protection aprons. It is worn directly under the X-ray protection and is easily fastened at the front with a Velcro fastener.
The design, which is open under the arm, allows for maximum freedom of movement.
At the same time, the design significantly reduces the scattered radiation entering from the sides above the armholes. The standard lead equivalent is 0.25 mmPb. This ensures good mobility in daily work routines.
The shoulder protection is always manufactured in the colour “titanium”. The correct size and protective material correspond to the selected X-ray protective clothing.

Shoulder bridge RA Brygga®
SHOULDER RELIEF FOR X-RAY PROTECTION APRONS.
Wearing a BRYGGA shoulder bridge under your X-ray protection apron is an easy and effective way to reduce the weight load on your shoulders and prevent muscle fatigue.

The patented invention from Sweden reduces pressure on the shoulder area, which is normally caused by the weight of the apron being worn, in a unique way.
BRYGGA distributes the weight more evenly and relies primarily on the bone structure rather than the muscles and nerve strands. This proves to be particularly advantageous when wearing the apron for long periods of time.
Product features:
- Patented solution
- Recommended for use with MAVIG apron models RA631 and RA632
- Does not interfere with or disturb the user in any way

CUSTOM-MADE TO YOUR PERSONAL BODY MEASUREMENTS
Using the data sheet below and a standard tape measure, you can easily record your body measurements, which MAVIG will then use to tailor your personal X-ray protective clothing.
Before you put on the tape measure, please note the following: The table data refers to body measurements, which you should measure loosely, without adding extra width but also without constricting yourself.
According to RöV and DIN EN 61331-3, the length of X-ray protective clothing should be such that the front of the body is covered from the base of the neck to at least the kneecaps.
(MAVIG recommends choosing a length that covers the knees for complete protection.)
